The capital of Wales is a compact and pretty city. The perfect place for that short weekend break away. With direct flights from Cork it's easy to get there and you'll be in the heart of the city within a few hours.

Cardiff is a great place to explore on foot and there's plenty to do and see there. With an ancient fort on one side and a rather modern waterfront on the other, it is a city full of surprises. With some fabulous attractions such as the stunning Castle with its Victorian interiors, the Millennium Stadium and the National Museum, you truly are spoilt for choice.

Wales certain has a taste for the finer things in life and there is an absolute wealth of organic farmers’ markets, artisan producers, food festivals and award-winning restaurants to be explored and discovered in this great city. Famous for Welsh lamb, award winning cheeses, Welsh rarebit and of course not forgetting the leek, the Welsh have something to suit every taste bud!

If you like a glass of wine then make sure you visit the Llanerch vineyard. While there you can taste their wines, view the vineyard and explore the ancient woodland and landscaped gardens. Just 10km outside Cardiff this truly is a great place to visit if you are a lover of wine.

If you're looking for something a little different to do then head to the St Mary Street Cardiff Market which is full of artisan foods, vintage clothing, antique furniture and bric-a-brac. This market is on every Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 5pm outside Cardiff Market.

When in Cardiff…

What better way to learn about the Cardiffians than to visit the Cardiff Story. This museum will tell you all you need to now about Cardiff and it's people. You'll learn about how the city was transformed from a 1300's small market town to one of the world's largest ports in the 1900's. And how it continued to evolve into the cosmopolitan capital it is today. A great introduction to the city and it's free entry.
