One of the best things about London is the obvious fact that it’s less than an hour away by air, so you could be in London in no time! London offers theatres, shows, shopping, culture, restaurants, gigs, art, museums and history, so it really is the city break with something for everyone!
Spend an afternoon enjoying lunch in Covent Garden where street entertainers add their own brand of fun and laughter to the day or chill out in one of the many London parks – grab a bottle of wine and a sandwich and you could spend the entire day having a picnic in one of London’s beautiful parks, perfect for couples or families.
Shop till you drop on Oxford Street, Regent Street, Tottenham Court Road or Bond Street, and spend that extra bit of money that you brought with you for just that reason. Spend a day steeped in history and culture at the Tower of London, the Royal Albert Museum, London Bridge, the London Eye, the Tate Gallery… as well as many other areas. London may only be an hour away, but the possibilities of what to do there are endless.
With so many celebrity chefs now so well-known and based in London, why not go and taste their dishes for yourself? Gordon Ramsay has 9 restaurants in the city, while Jamie Oliver’s restaurant ‘Fifteen’ is topical if nothing else. There’s also Ken Hom, Gary Rhodes and Anthony Worrall Thompson in the city, but they’ll have to be booked in advance!
If you don’t fancy booking that far in advance there’s always the traditional steak and kidney pie or fish and chips in local restaurants such as the Rock & Sole Plaice, the Archduke and Boxwood. They might still require reservations, but the list is a lot smaller than for celebrity chefs.
British pubs, like Irish pubs, are an experience all of their own. We’d recommend that you visit Dog & Duck, The Cove and Revolution. If these aren’t to your taste then there’s many more on offer as well!
Shopping in London is out of this world! There’s so much choice, variety and such an array of new, unique and varied stuff on offer on top of what is already sold in Ireland! Oxford Street, Regent Street, Tottenham Court Road, Bond Street, Kensington, Kings Road and Carnaby Street are the main areas in which you’ll find a huge selection of shops, but there are many more as well. You could spend all your time (as well as all of your money) just shopping! If you’re looking for some retail therapy, then London is definitely the city break for you.
When in London…
Make sure to visit Big Ben, the Tower of London, the Royal Albert museum, Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park and the Spitalfields market (on a Sunday)! London has many sites to visit, so make sure that you visit at least some of them.
